COMPETITIVE SOCCER

Our Competitive Program is designed for players seeking a higher level of training and competition.

Teams participate in structured league play and tournaments, with an emphasis on:

  • Technical development

  • Tactical understanding

  • Commitment and accountability

  • Long-term player growth

Placement on competitive teams is determined through a tryout and evaluation process.

We are committed to maintaining a player-first, development-focused environment that supports growth both on and off the field.

u8 academy

LSC offers a U8 Academy Program for seven-year-old players who may be interested in transitioning to competitive soccer at age eight.

The Academy provides a structured training environment that introduces players to higher-level skill development while remaining developmentally appropriate and balanced. The program is designed to support multi-sport athletes and is less intensive than our traditional competitive teams.

There are no cuts for the U8 Academy, and players of all skill levels are welcome. Our focus at this stage is building confidence, technical fundamentals, and a positive introduction to more structured play.

DevelopmentAL pathway

Our Developmental Pathway supports recreational players who are interested in competitive soccer but may not yet be ready for full team placement.

Players train with a competitive team to experience the pace and structure of higher-level play. Training sessions are best suited in November thru January.

During fall recreational season, eligible players may train with a competitive team while continuing to play games with their recreational team, allowing for additional development without sacrificing match experience.

Players may be considered throughout the year based on team availability. Families interested in this pathway should complete the Rec to Competitive Interest Form to begin the conversation.

 FAQs

  • Loomis SC competitive players are registered through US Club Soccer and compete in NorCal Premier Soccer League competition. Our program is designed to provide players with a meaningful development experience — combining structured training, competitive match play, and a commitment to long-term growth.

We strive to offer high-level soccer opportunities while maintaining affordability and community accessibility.

Our club’s success is built on the dedication of our volunteers and families. We measure achievement not solely by wins and losses, but by player development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and growth on and off the field.

As a small-town club with a relationship-first mindset, Loomis SC continues to build a reputation as a strong soccer community grounded in passion, fundamental skill development, and tactical understanding.

  • Competitive fees are structured to cover league registration, referee fees, insurance, field usage, administrative costs, and club operations. These range from $399 to $449 at the time of registration.

Additional team expenses such as tournaments, state cup, league fees, and optional team-paid training may be assessed separately by each team.

Loomis SC is committed to maintaining a transparent and affordable competitive pathway compared to many regional clubs.

  • All competitive teams are formed through an evaluation process conducted during scheduled tryouts.

Players are assessed on technical ability, tactical awareness, effort, coachability, and overall readiness for competitive play. Team placement decisions are made with the player’s long-term development in mind.

Tryout dates and registration information are posted each spring for the upcoming season.

  • Competitive players are required to purchase the official club uniform kit designated for the current cycle. Uniforms are typically used for a two-year period.

Uniform kits include home and away jerseys, shorts, and sock sleeves. Additional spirit wear may be available but is optional.

Uniform ordering instructions are provided following team placement.

  • Competitive teams typically train two to three times per week, depending on age group and level of play.

League games are generally scheduled on weekends. Additional tournaments may be scheduled throughout the season.

Practice schedules and locations are determined by field availability and team assignment. Coaches will communicate schedules directly to families.

  • Player placement is determined by age eligibility and developmental readiness.

Requests to “play up” are evaluated carefully and in accordance with the LSC Play Up Policy. Decisions are based on player safety, competitive balance, and long-term development.

Playing up is not guaranteed and is considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Loomis SC is a volunteer-based organization. All competitive head coaches and assistant coaches are required to complete applicable background checks and league credentialing requirements.

The club may provide access to technical training support where available. However, volunteer leadership remains a core component of our club structure.

We value positive leadership, player development, and alignment with club philosophy.

  • Recreational soccer focuses on broad participation, skill introduction, and flexible commitment.

Competitive soccer requires a higher level of dedication, attendance, and performance accountability. Players are expected to prioritize team commitments, training sessions, and league play.

Families should carefully consider the time and financial commitment before accepting a competitive roster spot.

  • The competitive season typically runs from mid-summer through late spring.

League play occurs during the fall and spring seasons, with optional winter and tournament play depending on team plans.

Specific seasonal calendars are shared by each team prior to the start of the season.

  • Loomis SC supports and encourages multi-sport participation.

Families should communicate scheduling conflicts in advance. As players progress into older competitive age groups, attendance expectations increase and team commitments become more significant.

Balancing multiple sports is encouraged when it supports long-term athlete development and well-being.

  • The club may provide supplemental technical and goalkeeper training opportunities to support player development across teams.

These sessions are designed to reinforce foundational skills, improve technical consistency, and support coach development.

Club-provided training supplements team practices but does not replace the leadership and structure of each team’s coaching staff.

  • Practices and home games are held at local Loomis and surrounding community fields.

Field assignments are determined based on availability and seasonal permitting. Families will receive field location details prior to the start of each season.

We take pride in maintaining positive relationships with local facilities and community partners.

  • Competitive teams participate in regional league play throughout Northern California.

Most travel is within the greater Sacramento region. Older age groups may travel farther depending on league placement and tournament selection.
