What is Select Soccer

Select soccer (class III) is for players who have a desire to play soccer at a slightly higher level than recreational soccer. It introduces players to tournament level soccer without as much time, money, and travel commitment that is typically required on competitive (class I) teams.

Nearly all high school soccer players are coming from select and competitive soccer programs. If you are interested in playing high school soccer, you should be in the select or competitive soccer program. How does it work?

To be selected for a LYSC Select team, you must attend a minimum of two select tryouts at the dates and times shown.

Select tryouts consist of assessing the player's athletic ability and desire to play. All players who tryout and are not selected for a team are encouraged to play on a LYSC recreational team.

Most teams will play in 3 to 5 tournaments including District VI Cup at the end of the season. There are typically 10 regular season games in addition to the tournaments. Most teams will end up playing 20 to 30 games total for the season.

League games are generally within the greater Sacramento Area and Tournaments are chosen by the team and are either local or in the Bay Area.

The registration cost for Select soccer is $60 to be turned into the coach with the LYSC registration form after tryout selections have been made. There are additional costs for uniforms, travel expenses, and tournament entry fees that are team dependant.

Important Notes:

Players must attend a minimum of two tryouts.

Players should arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled try out times.

Players should wear a white tee shirt, soccer shoes, shin guards, bring a ball, and water.

Parents must sign a medical release waiver for any player that did not play CYSA soccer last year.

Select Tryout Schedule 2008

All tryouts will be held at Del Oro High School

Girls tryouts will be held on the upper field and boys tryouts will be held on the lower field near the tennis courts.

(Arrive early for parking. Del Oro has other events. If the paved parking lots are full it is recommended that you park in the dirt lot next to the football field. The entrance is on King Road.)
